I am a Registered Psychotherapist with twenty years experience in the mental health field treating anxiety, depression, emotional regulation, relationship challenges, childhood trauma, complex trauma and PTSD. I can help you find relief from distressing symptoms, make positive behavioural changes, and connect you back to your True Self. After a thorough assessment you will understand the negative thought patterns and life traps keeping you stuck in a state of dysfunction. The next step is to provide you with a tailored coping plan that will give you the confidence to make healthy changes. The end goal is to resolve the root cause of your issues to make lasting changes in your life.
I believe much of the emotional pain people suffer from is the result of unresolved shame stemming from adverse childhood experiences where support, safety, nurturing and validation were not adequately provided. The child becomes vulnerable and needs to rely on psychological defenses to survive. These defenses carry into adult life posing many challenges with mental, emotional and physical health. The goal of therapy is to restore psychological balance by restoring the Self through validation of emotions, unburdening from the past, and exploring new perspectives and ways of being to meet life’s challenges.
In the beginning stages of therapy I often introduce clients to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy skills. These skills give you the tools to learn to cope with triggers, change your thinking to improve mood, and learn to manage emotions. If clients have a history of trauma in their background we can explore addressing these traumatic memories trough various trauma based therapies including Eye Movement Desensitization, Emotional Transformation Therapy, and Parts work (Gestalt and Internal Family Systems). Often my clients who chose to address their trauma find the experience life changing as they feel a new energy for life as burdens from the past are lifted and hope for the future restored. Neurofeedback and other neuro based therapies are also an option in the therapeutic process to address brain dysregulation including attention deficits, more intense anxiety and depression, behavior disorders, sleep disorders, stress related pain (chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia), headaches and migraines, and emotional disturbances.
More About Jason
Jason completed his Masters Degree from the University of Toronto, and is intensively trained in psychotherapy where he completed a five year post Masters training in Gestalt Therapy from the Gestalt Institute of Toronto (an approved psychotherapy training institution by the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario). Gestalt is a psychodynamic psychotherapy that helps people come to understand how they interfere and block their own needs and support in favour for old defense mechanisms. The goal of Gestalt is to increase awareness , move towards greater authenticity of self, and to tap into the creative potential that is required to satisfy human needs. As a Gestalt therapist I seek to meet my clients where they are at, allow for authentic contact, and allow the present moment to unfold. I am also trained in many types of trauma therapies including EMDR and have trained with leaders in the field of neuroscience and Neurofeedback.
